In response to Phillips’s post about the talk in the Sociology department on Thursday, I thought I might highlight a weekly session at the Columbia Journalism School, Tow Teas, that might be of interest to some members of the Columbia Data Science community.

“Tow Teas are held every week at the Journalism School. Any and all digitally-inclined members of the Columbia community are invited to join us. We meet for tea every Thursday in room 607b at the J School, from 5-7 PM.
Regular guest speakers come in and talk about their research in the emerging fields of data journalism, digital storytelling and social news and much more. There’ll also be occasional workshops where a new technology, platform or tool is demonstrated by its creator. These informal sessions are for any Journalism School student who wants to get involved with the Tow Center’s work, and anyone else who simply wants to learn more about digital journalism.

Tea will be provided.”

James Ball is a British data journalist currently based in DC at the Washington Post as their Laurence Stern Fellow. He works for the Guardian’s investigative team; which he joined from Wikileaks and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.
